You know how much you count on the hardworking nurses at your organization. Their lifesaving, good deeds, and dedication make them superheroes to your patients, their families, and all those who know them. A little recognition goes a long way in making staff members feel valued and respected. It shows your appreciation and motivates them to keep up their excellent work. Here are 6 Ways to Celebrate Your Nurse Superheroes. Don’t forget to include thank-you gifts as a reminder of your thoughtfulness and gratitude!
1. HONOR THE HERO TRADITION
Set up a display honoring the history of nursing. Use old-time nursing memorabilia, such as old-fashioned nurses’ shoes, hats, pins, or photographs. Add a timeline with important dates in nursing history.
2. GET TO KNOW OUR HEROES!
Put the spotlight on your nursing staff. Create a questionnaire for them to fill out, asking about hobbies, most embarrassing moments, or favorite movies, plus more serious questions such as what they did before nursing and why they became a nurse. Make a display or scrapbook titled “Our Nurse Superheroes” with a photo of each nurse and at least one fact from the questionnaire.
3. INSPIRE FUTURE SUPERHEROES
Invite high school students to tour your facility and meet your nurses. Talk to the students about careers in nursing.
4. SHOW COMPASSION IN ACTION
Take pictures of your staff, showing them hard at work as well as during lighter moments. Put together a slide show or PowerPoint presentation with funny, superhero-related captions and filters. Show the presentation during a thank-you breakfast or other event.
5. SUPER-SPECIAL DELIVERY
For nurses who can’t get away for a break, bring around a cart every few hours decorated with superhero decorations from a party store and loaded with tea, coffee, water, juice, and healthy snacks.
6. CELEBRATE SUPERPOWERS
Ask each nurse, “What’s your superpower?” Use the answers to create a fun quiz or game where the nursing team has to guess who said what. Award the winners with Powerade®, PowerBars® and other “super” prizes.
